During the meditation you cycle through attributes of the Five Rhythms Tradition
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Rhythms are a metaphor for the underlying energy patterns in our lives and our world. This flows from a greater cosmology.
Each Rhythm, way of being in the world, corresponds to one of the Five Virtues, emblematic of manifesting the Dao. According to this tradition we have a primary job of working with one of the Five Rhythms, moving from a state of relative imbalance towards a state of greater balance, virtue, and internal / external congruence.
Fulfilling our own destiny
As we do this, we work towards fulfilling our own destiny. In life, it often appears as if we have chosen a profession and personal path. In the Five Rhythms tradition this path challenges us to fully embody the ‘virtues’ which we may have underdeveloped.
Are our actions and thoughts aligned with our values?
How do we nurture wholeness and congruence within ourselves;
by noticing the ways we are already in direct contact with the ‘virtue’ associated with each Rhythm and by building on this foundation.
The Rhythms are: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal
Water/Winter/Wisdom: Flow with Wisdom and Possibility
Wood/Spring/Vision: Holding Vision & Meeting Challenges
Fire/Summer/Propriety: Living wisely with Heart
Earth/Indian Summer/Compassion: Maturity & Charity
Metal/Autumn/Dignity: Purity & Consolidation, Value & Inspiration
